The GX IO-Extender 150 by Victron Energy is a compact expansion module for GX communication centers such as the Cerbo GX or Venus GX. It was developed to increase the number of available inputs and outputs, enabling more complex automation tasks, custom controls, and the integration of additional sensors. Especially in demanding energy management systems, the IO‑Extender offers a reliable and flexible solution for extended control requirements.

Connection & Power

The connection to the GX device is made conveniently via USB. The USB cable not only enables communication but also provides the power supply for the IO‑Extender. The device is designed to be highly energy-efficient, typically consuming less than 100 mW in operation, with a maximum power draw of around 200 mA at 5 V. This allows for easy integration into existing systems without the need for additional power supplies or complex wiring.

Technical Features

The GX IO‑Extender 150 provides eight digital I/O connections that can be flexibly configured as inputs or outputs—in a 4+4 configuration or entirely as inputs or outputs. Additionally, it features four 8-bit PWM channels, ideal for smoothly adjustable applications like fans or LEDs. Two potential-free bistable relays allow for secure switching of loads up to 3 A at 30 V DC or 2 A at 60 V AC.

Another highlight is the integrated solid-state relay, which is particularly suitable for capacitive and inductive loads.

All inputs and outputs are isolated and equipped with LED indicators for easy status monitoring.

Dimensions & Mounting

With compact dimensions of 123 × 67 × 23 mm and a weight of just 170 g, the IO‑Extender can be installed flexibly. It is suitable for wall mounting as well as DIN rail mounting (with optional DIN35 adapter). The robust housing is rated for temperatures from –20 °C to +50 °C, making it ideal for both mobile and stationary applications in demanding environments.

Control & Integration

The inputs and outputs can be conveniently controlled via the graphical user interface of a GX device. Even more possibilities open up with integration into Node-RED: This allows for the creation of complex control logic, such as automating charging processes, alarms, or geofencing functions. Thanks to ongoing improvements in the Venus OS firmware, the feature set is regularly expanded and optimized—ensuring seamless integration into the Victron system.
