This installation kit allows you to replace an original Eberspächer D3L with an Autoterm Air 2D (formerly Planar 2D) in the VW T4.
A completely new stainless steel mounting bracket is included. It bolts directly to the original mounting position and supports the air ducting, fuel pump and associated components — similar to the OEM setup.
The kit also includes our TEXBOX2, a stainless steel enclosure that mounts underneath the vehicle together with the bracket, providing protected installation of the heater.
Adapters, warm air ducting and stainless steel clamps (where required) are included for connecting intake and outlet air. The system is designed to interface with the original VW air ducts.
Important: If the original VW air ducting is not present, this kit is not suitable. In that case, a custom installation is required.
Complete heater included
A complete Autoterm Air 2D is part of this package. For detailed specifications, dimensions and full scope of delivery, please refer to the product page of the Autoterm Air 2D.
Items to be completed during installation
Some installation steps depend on the individual vehicle. This includes routing the wiring harness into the interior.
The exhaust connection may also need to be adapted depending on the existing setup, or you can use the supplied Autoterm exhaust components.
The fuel pump is replaced and installed in the original mounting position.
Important: It is not possible to reuse any original control unit. The wiring harness supplied with the new heater must be used completely.
Compatibility note
This kit only works with vehicles equipped with the D3L air duct system.
If no heater was previously installed, or if the vehicle is equipped with a D2L, this kit is not compatible. The D2L uses a different air duct layout.
The D2L can be identified by intake and outlet on the same side. The D3L (and Autoterm Air) have intake and outlet on opposite sides. The changeover occurred around 1995.
Control units and operation
A control unit is included in the scope of delivery. You can choose between the following options:
Comfort Control
Control panel with multifunction rotary knob and display: simple operation, timer function, voltage display and thermostat mode – the proven all-rounder, also featuring a burn-off reminder and voltage monitoring that can actively shut the heater down to protect the battery.
Touch Control
Modern touch control panel with a clear menu structure. Ideal if you value especially convenient and intuitive operation and like to keep your information clearly visible.
