Cook off-grid without gas bottles or a large electrical system for an induction hob: Our Belief diesel cookers use diesel as their main energy source, supported by a 12 V power supply. Choose between a built-in indoor hob, a slide-out outdoor kitchen and a portable cooker for outdoor use.

Gas-free cooking in your camper van – without a large electrical system

If you’re planning a gas-free camper van conversion, induction is one option. However, regular cooking without shore power requires a suitably sized battery, inverter and charging setup. This can significantly increase conversion costs if you mainly need that equipment for cooking.

A diesel cooker gets most of its energy from fuel: Burning diesel produces the cooking heat, while electricity powers the startup process and the cooker’s electrical components. There’s no need for a high-power inverter. This lets you cook without gas and size your electrical system more closely around your other appliances.

Greater independence when refuelling

You can refill with diesel at fuel stations along your route. There’s no need to find replacement gas bottles, compatible exchange bottles or gas cartridges for cooking. In a diesel vehicle, a permanently installed cooker can draw fuel from the vehicle’s tank. The portable cooker has its own tank. This makes diesel particularly appealing for longer trips and conversions that already use a diesel heater.

Which diesel cooker suits your kitchen?

  • Built-in ceramic hob: For a permanent kitchen inside your vehicle. Combustion air and exhaust gases are routed outside. Alongside the adjustable main cooking zone, a second zone uses heat from the same burner to keep food warm or continue gentle cooking. It cannot be controlled independently.
  • Slide-out cooker: For a permanently installed outdoor kitchen, for example at the rear doors or sliding door. Cooking takes place outdoors only. On the lowering version, the burner assembly drops down once extended – useful if your kitchen unit would otherwise put the cooker too high for comfortable use.
  • Portable diesel cooker: For outdoor cooking with the freedom to choose your location. The fuel tank and pump are integrated; you just need a suitable 12 V power supply. No permanent installation is required.

What should you consider when planning?

First, decide whether you want to cook indoors or outdoors and whether you need a permanently installed cooker. Then check the space required, fuel supply and electrical connection. A diesel cooker still needs electricity: The 12 V supply must be able to handle the briefly higher current draw during startup.

Allow for the startup process, heat-up and cool-down times in your cooking routine. For a permanent installation, its best to include the combustion air and exhaust routing in your kitchen design from the outset. The right model therefore depends primarily on your installation plans and how you like to cook.
