When an off-the-shelf exterior connection is not enough

Not every vehicle conversion can be completed using prefabricated sockets and connection boxes. You may want to install a dedicated exterior switch for a pump, make a specific DC connector accessible from outside or route an existing cable neatly through the vehicle wall.

This is exactly what the Scanstrut Roam Universal Housing is designed for. Instead of predefined connections, it features a blank mounting surface into which the required components can be installed individually.

Also suitable for Starlink and custom cable pass-throughs

The Universal Housing can, for example, be used to integrate a custom cable pass-through for Starlink, antennas, communication equipment or other external devices into the vehicle wall.

Compared with an openly mounted cable pass-through, the main advantage is the protected position behind the Roam cover and the consistent design alongside other gas, water and power connections in the series.

No predefined connection – you choose the hardware

Scanstrut designed the housing for custom low-voltage AC/DC applications as well as other technical interfaces. Particularly suitable applications in recreational vehicles include custom 12 V or 24 V connections, switches, controls and signal pass-throughs.

IP68 / IP69K with the cover closed

The Roam Universal Housing is designed for permanent installation on the exterior of the vehicle. With the cover fully closed, the front achieves IP68 and IP69K protection. This provides a high level of protection against dust and water for the installed components when they are not in use.

Robust material for exterior use

The housing is made from PC/ABS and meets the UL 94 V-0 material classification. The material has also been tested for UV resistance to help prevent premature embrittlement or fading during permanent exterior use.

Scanstrut uses corrosion-resistant 316 marine-grade stainless steel for screws and other metal components. The fully spring-loaded cover features a 90° stay-open position, keeping it open during use.

Compact dimensions despite custom configuration

The housing provides a maximum usable installation space of 70.4 mm width, 78.4 mm height and 22.5 mm depth for your own components. This allows many compact switches, connectors and connection modules to be installed directly behind the front panel.

The housing itself requires only 15 mm of installation depth. Before modifying it, however, you should also take into account the space required behind the mounting surface by your chosen component, including terminals, cables and the necessary bend radii.

Standard 95 mm mounting opening

Like the other connections in the Roam Series, the Universal Housing uses a central mounting opening with a diameter of 95 mm. This makes planning easier for vehicle builders in particular when several different Roam connections are installed in the same vehicle.

A foam gasket for sealing against the mounting surface is included. The housing should be installed on a flat, smooth and non-porous surface to ensure that the intended seal functions reliably.

Do not use as a drinking water connection

The Universal Housing is intended for electrical and technical installations and is not suitable for direct contact with drinking water. It therefore does not replace a dedicated drinking water inlet or filling connection.
