Scanstrut Roam Multi-Power Outlet – Power & Connections Outside Your Camper
Connect a compressor, run a cool box outside, charge your smartphone or route a satellite/TV signal into the vehicle: the Scanstrut Roam Multi-Power Outlet combines several practical exterior connections in a single weather-protected housing.
Under the shared cover, you will find an Anderson SB50 high-current connection rated for up to 50 A, two USB-C charging ports, a conventional 12 V socket and two F-type coaxial connections for satellite and TV/cable. This makes the Multi-Power Outlet particularly useful for campers, expedition vehicles and motorhomes where electrical equipment is regularly used outside the vehicle.

Four functions in one exterior connection
Instead of distributing several separate sockets and connections around the vehicle body, the Roam Multi-Power Outlet combines four different interfaces under one common cover. This creates a clean exterior appearance and keeps frequently used connections together in one place.
The individual functions are electrically separate and must be connected according to the respective vehicle electrical system and intended application. The Multi-Power Outlet is therefore not a power distribution unit and does not contain a common voltage converter.
Important: The Multi-Power Outlet does not provide 230 V mains power. It combines several DC and signal connections in one housing.
The 12 V socket, USB-C charging electronics and Anderson connection have different voltage and current ranges and must be connected and fused separately according to the vehicle electrical system.
Anderson SB50 for high-power 12 V, 24 V or 48 V equipment
For equipment with higher current requirements, the Multi-Power Outlet features a grey Anderson SB50 connector. The connector is rated for up to 50 A, making it suitable for applications such as portable compressors, high-performance cool boxes, pumps or a suitably rated portable inverter.
In a 12 V system, the connection can theoretically carry up to 600 W at 50 A. At 24 V, this increases to up to 1,200 W and at 48 V to up to 2,400 W. In every case, correctly sized wiring, appropriate circuit protection and professional installation are essential.
For the full 50 A current rating, a cable cross-section of 6 AWG, approximately 16 mm², is specified. Depending on the actual current load, smaller genuine Anderson contacts for 10 mm² or 4–6 mm² cables can also be used.
The required SB50 crimp contacts for the cables are not included. Only genuine Anderson plugs and contacts should be used for this connection.
Do not confuse the voltage rating of the Anderson connection with the other outlets: The SB50 connector has its own electrical specification and can be used in different DC systems when installed appropriately. This does not mean that the adjacent 12 V socket or USB electronics can tolerate the same voltage.
Two USB-C ports for smartphones, tablets & more
The two integrated USB-C ports accept an input voltage of 10 to 32 V DC and can therefore be connected directly to either 12 V or 24 V onboard electrical systems.
In a 12 V system, USB-C charging profiles of 5 V, 9 V and 12 V at up to 3 A are available. When supplied from a 24 V electrical system, additional 15 V and 20 V profiles at up to 3 A are supported. This makes the ports suitable not only for smartphones and tablets, but also for compatible higher-power USB-C devices.
The USB charging electronics support compatible Power Delivery and Quick Charge devices. At high ambient temperatures or in direct sunlight, the electronics may temporarily shut down to protect against overheating.
Conventional 12 V socket with up to 225 W
A conventional 12 V socket is also provided for equipment with a standard automotive plug. It is designed for input voltages from 10 to 15 V DC and currents of up to 15 A.
This allows a maximum power of 225 W at 15 V. When the socket is operated at its maximum load of 15 A or 225 W, Scanstrut limits continuous operation to 30 minutes. The socket must then be allowed to cool before being used again at maximum load.
For reliable electrical contact, the 12 V plug used must have a shaft length of at least 44 mm.
Particularly important in 24 V vehicles: The USB-C ports can be supplied directly from a 24 V onboard electrical system – the 12 V socket cannot.
If the 12 V socket is to be used in a vehicle with a 24 V electrical system, a suitable 24-to-12 V DC-DC converter must be installed upstream.
Clean satellite and TV cable routing through the vehicle wall
Two additional F-type coaxial connections allow satellite and TV/cable signals to be routed through the vehicle wall. The connections have an impedance of 75 ohms and use nickel-plated brass contacts.
This makes it possible, for example, to connect an external satellite antenna or campsite cable TV supply without having to route a cable through windows, doors or other temporary openings.
Suitable RG6 coaxial cable is recommended for the internal wiring. Coaxial and power cables should not be routed directly alongside each other wherever possible in order to reduce signal interference. If several functions of the Multi-Power Outlet are used simultaneously, poorly planned installations may also cause interference with the TV signal.
Weather-protected for exterior vehicle installation
The Multi-Power Outlet is designed for permanent installation on the outside wall of the vehicle. With the cover fully closed and locked, the front achieves IP68 and IP69K protection.
The specified protection rating applies when the unit is correctly installed on a flat, smooth and non-porous surface with the gasket fully compressed. When the connections are in use and the cover is open, this IP rating does not apply.
The cover is fully spring-loaded and features a 90° stay-open position. When not in use, and especially while driving, it must be fully closed.
Installation with a 95 mm mounting opening
As with the other products in the Roam Series, installation is carried out using a central 95 mm mounting opening and four mounting points. A foam mounting gasket is included.
The housing measures approximately 110 × 230 mm. The greatest rear installation depth is in the area of the USB-C electronics and is approximately 71 mm. Before drilling, check that there is sufficient space behind the intended mounting surface for the connections, cables and required bend radii.
The installation location should be protected from excessive heat radiation and provide sufficient ventilation. The Multi-Power Outlet is not intended for use in explosive or flammable environments.
Separate wiring and appropriate circuit protection
The electrical installation must be designed separately for each connection according to voltage, maximum current, cable length and cable cross-section. Suitable fuses or circuit breakers must be installed between the battery or power source and the respective circuits.
High currents can flow through the Anderson connection in particular. Cable cross-section, circuit protection and connection technology must therefore be matched to the actual intended load. Scanstrut also recommends a suitable isolator switch for the Anderson circuit.
