Description

Renogy Battery Shunt 300 – precise battery monitoring via Bluetooth

With the Renogy Battery Shunt 300, you can keep an eye on your leisure battery’s energy balance without having to install an additional display in the vehicle. The intelligent battery monitor measures voltage and current directly at the battery system and uses these values to calculate, among other things, state of charge (SOC), energy and remaining runtime. The data can be conveniently accessed via Bluetooth using the Renogy DC Home app or a Renogy ONE system – a practical solution for campers, vans and expedition vehicles with more demanding on-board electrical systems.

Key benefits at a glance

  • Up to 300 A continuous current and 500 A peak current
  • Wide voltage range from 8 to 120 V DC
  • Monitor SOC, current, voltage, energy and remaining runtime
  • Bluetooth connectivity with DC Home and Renogy ONE
  • Suitable for battery capacities from 1 to 6500 Ah
  • Temperature sensor and starter battery voltage monitoring

What does a battery shunt do?

More than a simple voltage display

With modern leisure batteries, voltage measurement alone is often not enough to reliably determine how much energy is actually still available. The Renogy Battery Shunt 300 is therefore installed in the negative line of the main battery and measures the current flowing into or out of the battery.

Using these measurements, the system calculates the current state of charge (SOC), among other values. This gives you a much better idea of how much battery capacity is still available and how long your current loads can be expected to keep running.

All important battery data in the app

Bluetooth instead of an additional built-in display

The shunt has an integrated Bluetooth module and connects directly to the Renogy DC Home app or Renogy ONE. This allows you to centrally monitor important values of your battery system and adjust settings.

Depending on the connected system, the following values are available, among others:

  • Battery state of charge (SOC)
  • Battery voltage
  • Charge and discharge current
  • Energy
  • Remaining runtime
  • Battery temperature
  • Voltage of an optionally connected starter battery

The B2 connection can also be used to monitor the starter battery voltage. Please note: the starter battery connection is used for voltage monitoring only – current measurement and SOC calculation refer to the main battery connected via the shunt.

Suitable for different battery systems

From 8 to 120 V and up to 6500 Ah

With an operating voltage range of 8 to 120 V DC, the Battery Shunt 300 is not limited to standard 12 V on-board electrical systems. Larger 24 V or 48 V systems can also be monitored within the specified limits.

The shunt is approved for battery capacities between 1 and 6500 Ah. It supports different battery chemistries, including AGM and GEL lead-acid batteries, LiFePO4, lithium-ion and nickel-metal hydride batteries.

300 A continuous current for powerful on-board electrical systems

The Battery Shunt 300 is designed for a maximum continuous current of 300 A. Peak currents of up to 500 A for less than 10 seconds are permitted. This also makes it suitable for on-board electrical systems with larger inverters and correspondingly high charge and discharge currents – provided that the complete system, including cable cross-sections, connections and fusing, is designed accordingly.

Current measurement has an accuracy of ±1% and a resolution of 0.01 A.

Temperature, alarm functions and historical data

Not just monitoring the battery, but recognising changes

The included temperature sensor also enables monitoring of the battery temperature. Various alarm thresholds can be configured via DC Home or Renogy ONE, for example for low SOC, overvoltage and undervoltage, high charge or discharge currents, and battery temperatures that are too high or too low.

The shunt also stores historical charging and discharging data. This includes, for example, charged and discharged Ah as well as further information about the battery’s previous behaviour. Especially in expedition vehicles that are regularly used off-grid, this historical data can help you better assess actual energy requirements and changes in battery capacity.

SOC synchronisation for reliable values

To keep the displayed remaining capacity as reliable as possible, the shunt must be configured for the battery actually being used. During initial commissioning, the battery’s rated capacity in Ah is entered for this purpose.

SOC synchronisation is useful after initial installation or after an interruption to the power supply. It can be carried out via DC Home or Renogy ONE.

Installation in the on-board electrical system

The entire main battery current must flow through the shunt

The Battery Shunt is installed in the negative line of the main battery. The battery side is connected to terminal B-, while loads, chargers and inverters are connected on the P- side. The shunt can only measure the energy flow correctly if all charge and discharge currents of the main battery are routed through it.

The two main connections use M10 terminals. The required power cables must be sized according to the maximum current expected in the respective on-board electrical system.

The shunt should be installed in a dry, clean and sufficiently ventilated location. For the most reliable Bluetooth connection possible, it is also advisable not to position the unit directly next to larger metal surfaces.
