Description

monoBOIL Electric Water Boiler

The monoBOIL is a hot water boiler manufactured in Western Europe, meeting the highest standards of quality in both materials and production. It is designed for mobile applications in land and water travel vehicles or tiny houses.

For heating water, the monoBOIL uses an electric heating coil made of a corrosion-resistant special alloy. The heating element can be powered from the onboard supply at 12/24V or by connecting to the 230/120V mains or a sufficiently dimensioned inverter.

The water temperature at which the heating coil automatically switches off is pre-adjustable.

Flexible Mounting Options

The monoBOIL can be mounted on the floor, on the wall, or even on slanted surfaces. Two mounting clamps allow for flexible installation, as the boiler can rotate within the clamps thanks to its cylindrical shape. This makes it easy to find a suitable installation spot in any vehicle.

Built-in Safety Valve

If the system pressure becomes too high, a safety valve opens to prevent damage or leaks in the boiler and water system of the vehicle.

Worry-free in Winter

The safety valve features a lever that can be used to drain the boiler through a drainage hose (not included). This makes winterizing your system quick and easy at this point.

Available in Different Sizes

To meet different needs, the monoBOIL comes in various sizes. Simply choose the one that suits you best. Keep in mind: you can get much more hot shower water than the boiler’s capacity. The monoBOIL heats water up to 83°C, which is far too hot for showering. In this case, cold water must be mixed in, significantly increasing the amount of comfortably warm shower water.

Note: You will need a scald protection device or thermostatic mixer (not included, see item number TEX1764). Alternatively, you can pre-set the boiler’s shut-off temperature to, for example, 40 degrees. However, we strongly recommend using the thermostatic mixer for the reasons mentioned and to ensure double protection against excessively hot water.

monoBOIL for DC and AC Applications

The monoBOIL water heater is available for use in 12 or 24-volt DC systems, as well as for operation with an inverter or mains power at 230 or 120 volts.

No matter how you prefer to use your hot water boiler, you’ll find the right version here.

Hot Water Connection Kit

Caution: Both the hot water outlet directly on the boiler and the thermostatic mixer can become very hot (depending on the system configuration and settings). Standard (drinking) water hoses and plastic connectors cannot withstand such temperatures over long periods and can thermally deform, which can lead to leaks.

We therefore recommend the hot water connection kit for integrating the boiler into the water system. It includes, among other things, special silicone drinking water hoses (heat-resistant up to 150°C), matching clamps, and connectors. Learn more and order under item number TEX1178.

Frequently asked questions about monoBOIL
The time depends on the power of the heating element. For example, heating a 4.5 l boiler with 300W from 15°C to 65°C takes about 54 minutes. You can easily calculate the heating time yourself. Calculate: (target temperature in °C – starting temperature in °C) x boiler volume in l x 1.2 / heating power of the boiler in watts x 60 = heating time in minutes.

If you want to learn more about heating times (including other heating methods, such as via an air heater or cooling circuit integration with different boilers), take a look at our extensive magazine article on this topic.

Not helpful?
The cold water connection must always be at the bottom, the hot water connection always at the top.

Since the boiler's bracket can be rotated, wall, ceiling and floor mounting are possible.

Not helpful?
As a rule of thumb, at a shower temperature of 30°C you can count on about twice the amount of ready-to-use water relative to the boiler volume.

Not helpful?
A heating element with on-board voltage (12 or 24V) should be chosen,
  • if you depend on the on-board system to run it (i.e. you are usually NOT on a campsite or pitch with a power hookup) and
  • there is no 230V inverter in the system.

  • If an inverter is present, you can feed the boiler more electrical power via a 230V heating element, which in turn heats the water faster.

Water disinfection & material compatibility (applies to all tigerexped hot water boilers)
Our boilers are made of 316L stainless steel (1.4404). This material is specially suited for drinking water applications and is also used in food and pharmaceutical technology. tigerexped boilers are robot-welded (TIG) and fully pickled and passivated inside and out. This ensures a homogeneous passive layer and a very high level of corrosion protection.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
No. 316L stainless steel is very corrosion-resistant, but not immune to chemical misuse. The service life of a boiler depends, among other things, on water quality, the disinfectants used, temperature, standing times and the material pairings in the entire system.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
    In many travel situations, yes.
In a vehicle, long standing times, changing water sources, heating and biofilm formation all come together. Controlled water care improves hygiene and protects the entire system. The service life of drinking water filters at the tap is extended by inhibiting bioactivity.

For continuous use we recommend silver-ion-based products (e.g. Micropur Classic or equivalent). These inhibit germs, are gentle on materials and are suitable for regular refilling.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
    Yes, with restrictions.
Chlorine-based products (e.g. Micropur Forte) may only be used strictly according to the manufacturer's dosage, in the cold water system and with a limited contact time. The system must then be flushed thoroughly.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
Chlorine is strongly oxidizing. In combination with a high concentration, long contact time or heat, it can locally attack the passive layer of stainless steel and accelerate corrosion mechanisms.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?

    The following are not permitted:

  • household bleach
  • pool or industrial chlorine
  • chlorine-based cleaners
  • shock chlorination
  • overdosing
  • disinfection in the hot system

  • These applications can lead to irreversible damage.

Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?

    Typical types of damage are:

  • pitting corrosion (pinpoint perforations)
  • crevice corrosion at connections and sealing surfaces
  • sudden leaks without much advance warning

  • This damage is not caused by a material defect, but by chemical misuse.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
    No.
Different disinfectants should not be used simultaneously or alternately without flushing in between. This increases the chemical load and brings no hygienic benefit.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
Recommended are high-quality plastics (e.g. PEX, PA, PPSU), gunmetal fittings and stainless steel fittings. Brass is only suitable as dezincification-resistant DZR brass. Not recommended are copper, galvanized steel and aluminum in areas that carry water.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
Copper is electrochemically less noble than stainless steel. In mixed installations it can corrode preferentially or cause other undesirable effects in the system. What about a stainless steel heat exchanger loop on the engine cooling circuit? A stainless steel heat exchanger loop in the boiler that is connected to the engine cooling circuit via rubber hoses is generally uncritical. What matters is correct coolant that complies with the vehicle manufacturer's specification, with a sufficient glycol content and regular replacement intervals.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
    Usually not directly.
Aged or incorrect coolant primarily damages aluminum components and can impair heat transfer. The stainless steel heat exchanger is usually not the first component to be affected.
Was this FAQ helpful for you?

    Not helpful?
  • use silver-ion products for everyday use
  • use chlorine only selectively, cold and correctly dosed
  • ensure regular water exchange
  • avoid long stagnation times
  • use connections made of suitable materials
  • do not experiment with chemicals
