Description

Renogy Nexus 60A Power Management System – the energy hub for your 12V on-board electrical system

The Renogy Nexus 60A Power Management System combines key functions of your camper electrical system in one unit: it charges the leisure battery from shore power, the alternator and solar panels, distributes 12V power to fused load circuits, and provides functions for switching, monitoring and integrating the on-board electrical system.

Inside the unit, a 35A AC-DC charger, a 30A DC-DC charger and a 30A MPPT solar charge controller work together. Multiple available charging sources can be combined, with a maximum total charging current of 60A.

The Nexus also provides fused power distribution for your 12V loads. A total of 14 output circuits are available. Seven of these can be controlled individually, while three of these channels additionally support PWM dimming for compatible LED lighting. Low-voltage disconnect as well as RS485, CAN and Bluetooth communication complete the central power management system.

Key benefits at a glance

  • Combined use of multiple charging sources with up to 60A total charging current
  • Solar input for up to 800W panel power and 15–42V Voc
  • 14 fused 12V outputs for loads of up to 15A each
  • Seven individually controllable load channels, including three with PWM dimming for compatible LED lighting
  • Central load control and low-voltage disconnect
  • Supports both smart and conventional alternators
  • RS485, CAN and Bluetooth for monitoring and system integration

Central power management instead of multiple separate devices

In a conventional on-board electrical system, the AC charger, DC-DC charger, solar charge controller, fuse distribution, monitoring functions and switching modules are often planned and connected separately. The Renogy Nexus combines many of these functions in one central unit.

This provides a clearly structured system architecture and creates a common platform for charging, power distribution, load control and monitoring. It is particularly suitable for campers, motorhomes, caravans and converted vans with a 12V on-board electrical system supplied from multiple energy sources.

The Nexus is therefore much more than a charger. It forms the central connection point between shore power, the solar system, alternator, leisure battery and connected 12V loads.

Three charging sources with intelligent prioritisation

Depending on whether you are driving, parked or connected to an external power supply, the Nexus can charge the leisure battery from shore power, the alternator or solar. Multiple sources can also be used simultaneously.

The system can handle the following combinations:

  • Shore power and DC-DC charging from the alternator
  • Shore power and solar
  • Solar and DC-DC charging from the alternator
  • Shore power, solar and DC-DC charging simultaneously

The maximum total charging current is 60A. The individual chargers do not each provide an additional 60A. Instead, the Power Management System combines the available sources according to the defined charging priorities.

Charging priorities
  • Shore power and solar: shore power before solar
  • Shore power and DC-DC: shore power before alternator
  • Solar and DC-DC: solar before alternator
  • Shore power, solar and DC-DC: shore power before solar before alternator
35A AC-DC charger for shore power

The integrated AC charger allows the leisure battery to be charged from an external AC supply. The maximum charging current from this source is 35A.

30A DC-DC charger for the alternator

The integrated DC-DC charger is designed for a 12V-to-12V system and provides up to 30A or a maximum of 450W. It can be used with both conventional and smart alternators.

Two operating modes are available for detecting whether the engine is running. In IGN mode, an ignition signal can be connected to the D+ input. In ALT mode, charging start and stop are controlled according to the starter battery voltage, with different thresholds for conventional and smart alternators.

30A MPPT solar charge controller for up to 800W solar power

The integrated MPPT solar charge controller is designed for up to 800W of solar panel power and a PV open-circuit voltage of 15 to a maximum of 42V Voc. The maximum solar charging current is 30A.

Important when planning your solar system: the open-circuit voltage of all panels connected in series must not exceed the permitted 42V Voc, including at low temperatures.

Integrated 12V distribution with 14 fused circuits

In addition to its charging functions, the Nexus distributes battery power to your 12V loads. A total of 14 fused output circuits are available for loads of up to 15A each.

The load channels are divided into different functional groups:

  • CH1: always-on output for loads that require a permanent power supply. This output remains active even when the Power Switch is switched off, until the low-voltage disconnect is triggered.
  • CH2–CH7: fused standard load outputs with monitoring functionality.
  • CH8–CH14: intelligent load channels that can be switched individually via Renogy ONE Core or the Renogy App.
  • CH8–CH10: additionally support PWM dimming for compatible LED lighting.

Tool-free quick-connect terminals for positive and negative are provided for all 14 load channels. This allows the individual circuits to be connected directly to the Power Management System in a clear and organised way.

The individual circuit assignment and fuse protection must be selected to suit the connected loads, cable cross-sections and the overall design of your 12V on-board electrical system.

Switching loads and monitoring the on-board electrical system

The Nexus features LED status indicators for shore power, solar, starter battery, leisure battery and system faults. Operating status can be monitored and various system parameters configured via Renogy ONE Core or the Renogy App.

The integrated low-voltage disconnect can shut down the power supply to loads when the battery voltage reaches the configured cut-off threshold. The permanent CH1 output remains active until this low-voltage protection is triggered.

RS485, CAN and Bluetooth are available for communication with other system components. The PMS also provides connections for battery, interior and exterior temperature sensors as well as various Renogy level sensors.

Central tank level monitoring

Up to four Renogy dual-wire resistive level sensors and up to four Renogy 5-wire capacitive level sensors can be connected to the Power Management System. This allows fresh and grey water tanks, for example, to be integrated into the central system monitoring.

The sensors are calibrated via Renogy ONE Core or the Renogy App when first used. Depending on the sensor type, automatic and manual calibration options are available.

Integration into the Renogy ONE system

In the system diagram (see product images), the Nexus is shown as the central hardware between the leisure battery, charging sources, 12V loads and tank level monitoring. Via its CAN interfaces, it can be integrated into a Renogy ONE system architecture.

Both CAN communication ports can simultaneously supply power to connected compatible devices such as the Renogy ONE Core or Renogy Control Panel. This eliminates the need for additional power supply cables for these components.

In the configuration shown, a Renogy ONE Core provides further connectivity to the display, app and cloud. These Wi-Fi and cloud functions should therefore not be confused with a standalone Wi-Fi connection provided by the Nexus itself; they depend on the additional Renogy ONE components used and the available network connection.

The Renogy Control Panel shown in the system diagram is also available separately.

Installation location and operating conditions

The Renogy Nexus is designed for installation in a dry and well-ventilated interior location. It should be mounted on a flat surface and protected from direct sunlight, high temperatures and water.

The permitted operating temperature range is −20 to 60 °C. Above 45 °C, the system reduces its power output. A clearance of 150 mm around the unit should be provided for installation, wiring and ventilation.
