duoBOIL Hot Water Boiler
The duoBOIL is a hot water boiler manufactured in Western Europe to the highest standards of quality in both materials and production. It is designed for mobile applications in land and water travel vehicles or tiny houses.
The boiler can generate hot water in two different ways.
1. Using an Electric Heating Coil
The duoBOIL features an electric heating coil made of a corrosion-resistant special alloy. It can be powered from the onboard supply at 12/24V or by connecting to the 230/120V mains, or via a sufficiently dimensioned inverter.
The water temperature at which the heating coil automatically switches off is pre-adjustable.
2. Via Integration into the Vehicle’s Cooling System
The duoBOIL can be integrated into the engine's cooling system to heat the domestic water. This allows you to use the engine's waste heat without additional energy consumption, so you can enjoy a hot shower after your drive.
Conversely, the engine can be preheated, making starts gentler (not suitable for use in Arctic temperatures).
The options for integrating into the cooling system are as follows:
Cooling System Heats Domestic Water:
The cooling system is connected to the boiler and heats domestic water for showers, etc., while driving. Note that temperatures in the cooling system can exceed 100°C due to the pressure. Over time, this could cause the domestic water in the boiler to boil, resulting in dangerous steam and possible pressure release through the safety valve. This must be avoided at all costs. Use a valve in the cooling circuit or switch off the circulation pump to prevent the boiler from heating above 85°C.
Boiler Preheats the Cooling System (Engine):
This is the reverse of the above function. By connecting the boiler to a 230V/120V power source, the engine’s cooling system can be preheated. This can prevent the engine from freezing in extreme temperatures or allow for a gentler start in such conditions. The effectiveness of this method depends significantly on the ambient temperatures and the engine's size. Under Arctic conditions, the heat output needed to sufficiently raise the temperature of a large engine is much higher than what a hot water boiler can provide. In such cases, specific engine preheating measures (e.g., Autoterm Flow heating device) are necessary.
Flexible Mounting Options
The duoBOIL can be mounted on the floor, on the wall, or even on slanted surfaces. Two mounting clamps allow for flexible installation, as the boiler can rotate within the clamps due to its cylindrical shape. This makes it easy to find a suitable installation spot in any vehicle.
Built-in Safety Valve
If the system pressure becomes too high, a safety valve opens to prevent damage or leaks in the boiler and the vehicle's water system.
Winterizing
The safety valve features a lever that allows for the boiler to be drained through a drainage hose (not included). This makes winterizing your system quick and easy at this point.
Large Hot Water Capacity
The duoBOIL has a capacity of 9 liters. Since these 9 liters can be heated to 83°C, cold water must be mixed with the hot water for showering, significantly increasing the amount of comfortably warm shower water.
Note: You will need a scald protection device or thermostatic mixer (not included, see item number TEX1764). Alternatively, you can pre-set the boiler’s shut-off temperature to, for example, 40°C. However, we strongly recommend using the thermostatic mixer for the reasons mentioned and to ensure double protection against excessively hot water.
duoBOIL for DC and AC Applications
The duoBOIL water heater is available for use in 12 or 24-volt DC systems, as well as for operation with an inverter or mains power at 230 or 120 volts.

Hot Water Connection Kit
Caution: Both the hot water outlet directly on the boiler and the thermostatic mixer can become very hot (depending on the system configuration and settings). Standard (drinking) water hoses and plastic connectors cannot withstand such temperatures over long periods and can thermally deform, which can lead to leaks.
We therefore recommend the hot water connection kit for integrating the boiler into the water system. It includes, among other things, special silicone drinking water hoses (heat-resistant up to 150°C), matching clamps, and connectors. Learn more and order under item number TEX1178.
Other Types of Boilers
Looking for even more flexibility in heating water? Check out the combiBOIL water heater, which can also heat water using warm air from the heater. It’s available in three different sizes.
Do you only need the electric heating element in the boiler to heat your water? Then the monoBOIL is perfect for you, also available in multiple sizes.
If the water is heated electrically, the 12V and 24V versions of the boiler include an external thermostat relay (TSR), which measures and controls the boiler temperature for electric operation. The switch-on and switch-off temperatures must be set in the TSR relay beforehand (see its instructions!). If the water temperature rises above 65°C (recommended setting), the relay switches the heating element off. If it drops to 60°C (recommended setting), the relay switches the heating element back on. The instructions of the thermostat relay must be followed, and a switch must be installed upstream.
For the 110V and 230V versions of the duoBOIL, the temperature control is integrated in the boiler. The heating element switches off at a fixed 65°C and back on at 56°C. We recommend connecting the heating element to the 230V mains via an illuminated switch for better control.
Cooling circuit If you connect the boiler to the vehicle's cooling circuit (see also our Cooling Circuit Kit), you also need to integrate a temperature control. For this you use another temperature sensitive relay (TSR), which also measures the water temperature in the boiler and, by means of a switchable bypass, routes the coolant through the boiler or past it depending on temperature.
Here too: follow the instructions of the temperature sensitive relay! At a temperature of 75°C (recommended setting) the relay should switch the bypass and pump the coolant past the boiler. At 70°C (recommended setting) the relay switches back and the coolant flows through the boiler again.
With electricity, the time depends on the power of the heating element. Heating a 9-liter boiler with 300W from 15°C to 65°C takes about 108 minutes. You can easily calculate the heating time yourself. Calculate: (target temperature in °C – starting temperature in °C) x boiler volume in l x 1.2 / heating power of the boiler in watts x 60 = heating time in minutes.
If you want to learn more about the required heating times, take a look at our extensive magazine article on this topic.
Since the duoBOIL's bracket can be rotated, wall, ceiling and floor mounting are possible.
If an inverter is present, you can feed the boiler more electrical power via a 230V heating element, which in turn heats the water faster.
Caution: The towel warmer must not have more power than the heater / heating element feeds into the boiler.
In a vehicle, long standing times, changing water sources, heating and biofilm formation all come together. Controlled water care improves hygiene and protects the entire system. The service life of drinking water filters at the tap is extended by inhibiting bioactivity.
Chlorine-based products (e.g. Micropur Forte) may only be used strictly according to the manufacturer's dosage, in the cold water system and with a limited contact time. The system must then be flushed thoroughly.
The following are not permitted:
These applications can lead to irreversible damage.
Typical types of damage are:
This damage is not caused by a material defect, but by chemical misuse.
Different disinfectants should not be used simultaneously or alternately without flushing in between. This increases the chemical load and brings no hygienic benefit.
Recommended are high-quality plastics (e.g. PEX, PA, PPSU), gunmetal fittings and stainless steel fittings.
Brass is only suitable as dezincification-resistant DZR brass.
Not recommended are copper, galvanized steel and aluminum in areas that carry water.
Aged or incorrect coolant primarily damages aluminum components and can impair heat transfer. The stainless steel heat exchanger is usually not the first component to be affected.
These notes apply to all our 316L stainless steel boilers, regardless of size or version.
Our boilers are made of high-quality 316L stainless steel (1.4404) and are designed for drinking water and hot water applications in vehicles. They are robot-welded and pickled and passivated inside and out to achieve a very high level of corrosion protection.
However, the service life of a stainless steel boiler depends not only on the material and the manufacturing, but largely on the way it is operated and on water care.
PERMITTED USE
Use of disinfectants suitable for drinking water according to the manufacturer's instructions
IMPROPER USE
LIABILITY NOTICE
Damage caused by chemical misuse, unsuitable disinfectants, overdosing, incorrect material pairings or deviation from this usage specification does not constitute proper use and can considerably shorten the service life of the boiler.
IN SHORT
Our boilers are designed for drinking water.Using unsuitable chemicals or incorrect disinfection methods can lead to material damage and does not count as proper use.
