Diesel air heater installation kit with 4 kW heating output
As the name of the kit already suggests: this heater kit is the right choice for 1% of campers – which means that for EVERYONE else, it is simply not suitable. In 99% of cases, a 2 kW heater is completely sufficient, and our 99% Camper Kit is the better choice. More power does not automatically mean a better solution. It needs to be the right fit, otherwise you will end up disappointed.
The 1% Camper Kit is right for you if
- the interior of your camper is quite large, from approx. 14 - 16 cubic metres of heated interior volume without furniture
- your vehicle is poorly insulated and you do not want to change that anymore
- you regularly travel in very cold regions
- you deliberately need more reserve capacity than a 2 kW heater can offer for demanding conditions
If two of these criteria apply, this is the right kit for you. If you are somewhere in between, take a look at this option – it may be exactly the right solution for your setup: TWIN Kit 2 x 2 kW air heater system.
Otherwise, we recommend that you first take a closer look at the 99% Camper Kit and then decide. We want you to be happy with the result and not install something that does not match you, your vehicle and the way you travel.
The Autoterm Air 4D in the 1% Camper Kit
The diesel air heater included in the 1% Camper Kit from manufacturer Autoterm has been proven technology for many years and, under its former name Planar 44D, had already become a familiar choice in self-built camper conversions.
Robust and easy to repair
What applies to the 99% Kit is even more relevant for the 1% Camper Kit: the Autoterm heater can comfortably be kept running continuously. Especially when ambient temperatures are extremely low or the walls of the camper or cabin are not well insulated, it takes a huge amount of energy to heat up the interior from cold. It is much better not to let the interior cool down completely and simply let the heater run continuously at a low power level. You can always increase the output if needed – and you should do so from time to time to prevent soot build-up. As a rule of thumb: run the heater at full output for at least half an hour every 1 - 2 weeks.
The 4 kW and 2 kW heaters are both extremely robust and reliable. In addition, they can even be repaired by yourself during long-distance travel without major problems, should that ever actually become necessary. If you make sure your heater is not operated exclusively on the lowest power setting, soot build-up is generally not something you should expect.
Altitude kit
Maybe it is the mountains rather than just cold weather that draw you in? The heater is prepared for that too – with an altitude kit that automatically adjusts fuel injection to changing air pressure conditions.
We developed the altitude kit ourselves together with the manufacturer and tested it on the Pitztal Glacier. Since then, our customers have travelled extensively with it and have used the heater at altitudes of more than 5,000 metres in some cases.
Important
Even with an altitude kit, a heater can still soot up. Once back at normal altitude, the heater needs the opportunity to burn off soot deposits. As mentioned above, half an hour at maximum output helps maintain the heater for a long service life.

Control and operating elements
A control panel is included with the heater package (please choose your preferred version). You can choose from the following variants:
Comfort Control
Control panel with multifunction rotary knob and display: easy operation, timer function, voltage display and thermostat mode – it is the proven all-rounder and also features a burn-off reminder and voltage monitoring, which can actively switch off the heater to protect the battery.

Touch Control
Modern touch control panel with clear menu navigation. Ideal if you value especially comfortable and intuitive operation and like to keep all information clearly visible.

Mini Control
The Mini Control is a simple control panel for operating the heater via output levels. Use in temperature mode requires an optional external temperature sensor.

Tip: optionally available Push Control
Since 2025, two control devices can be operated simultaneously on one heater – for example one in the living area and one in the cab or sleeping area.
The Push Control panel is a compact, robust push-button unit for quick day-to-day operation (on/off and output levels). It can be combined with the Comfort Control or used on its own if only basic operation is required.

Compare control panels directly
You can find a detailed comparison of the control panels in our magazine:
Autoterm control panels compared – functions, differences and recommendations (available in German only - we kindly ask to use your Browsers Translation)
Optional: extension cables
The cable length of the control panels included in the package is 1.80 m. Longer cables or extension leads can be found in our air heater accessories section.
Important: fuel hose
A fuel hose is included for connecting the lines. In most cases, the included length is fully sufficient. If, unexpectedly, this is not enough, you can reorder the hose by the metre under item number 35612.
Patented stainless steel mounting flange
Our stainless steel flange for simple and thermally decoupled heater installation. The flange was developed in-house and is a patented tigerexped design.
Please do not use silicone to bond and seal the flange. Use a PUR sealant instead.
Select the suitable size. It is available for floor thicknesses up to 48 mm or for 83 mm floor thickness in habitation boxes or with thick insulation and floor panels. For an optimal sealing joint, the flange should be approx. 5 mm longer than the floor thickness.
Fuel supply T-pieces
2 different T-pieces (8 x 8 x 5.3 mm and 5.3 x 5.3 x 5.3 mm) are included in case an auxiliary heater is already installed or it is certain that both the heater and the vehicle function properly when the original fuel system of your vehicle is used via a T-piece for fuel supply.
If this is not possible or uncertain, a tank pick-up pipe is included with the heater so diesel can be drawn directly from the vehicle tank.
Warm air distribution
Also included are 3 metres of 90 mm warm air ducting, a matching asymmetric Y-piece and two rotatable Eberspächer air outlets with a diameter of 90 mm.
Optionally available
For a fuel supply that does not draw from the vehicle's fuel tank, additional tanks with 7.5 l capacity are available.
Further installation kits
We also offer matching installation kits for VW T5/T6 as well as for VW T4 (if an Eberspächer D3L was previously installed), and as already mentioned, our 99% Camper Kit.
Frequently asked: what is the difference between this kit and the Warm Water Kit?
A Warm Water Kit includes not only a heater, but also a hot water boiler. However, a Warm Water Kit is not simply a 99% Camper Kit with boiler – the scope of delivery also differs in other areas. You can find a direct and detailed comparison of the two kits here: 99% Camper Kit vs. Warm Water Kit – what do I get with which one

Hot water planned?
If you want to install a hot water system in your camper in addition to a heater:
Autoterm heaters are available in combination with a hot water boiler and a special control unit for full system integration.
