Error 9 on Autoterm Air / Planar auxiliary heaters

What does Error 9 mean

If this error is shown on the heater's display (or 4 x blink on the PU-5 control panel), the glow plug can't be detected electrically. The start attempt fails because the glow plug can't be controlled and heated up.

Cause

As a rule, the ceramic of the glow plug has been broken by force; a glow plug that is defective on its own is extremely rare. In almost all cases it is therefore a classic transport damage.

Repair

Once the warranty period of the heater has expired, the repair can certainly be done yourself. However, keep in mind that mistakes can easily happen here, since parts can be installed the wrong way round and the ceramic of the glow plug is relatively delicate.

We recommend having the repair done by an authorized service partner, especially since any warranty period still running would otherwise expire.

Fortunately, damage of this kind does not occur often.

ATTENTION: You can register your heater for repair directly using the form attached below if your heater shows error 9. In most other error cases, the heater does NOT need to be removed and sent back, because the error is often related to the installation in that particular vehicle - meaning the heater would run perfectly on our test bench. Please check our other error videos for the possible problems and then contact us if you need help solving them. So that we can get an idea of the situation, it is best to upload photos of your installation right away. We will first try to help you by remote diagnosis before a heater is sent in. Otherwise, we reserve the right to charge for unnecessary tests on our test bench.
